LBN Operations Update
Government and Basketball England Advice
We paid closed attention to the new guidelines announced by the government on May 10th, and we want to keep the LBN family updated.
From Monday 1 June, there are a limited number of things you will be able to do in England that you could not do before:
- Competitive sport is allowed behind closed doors. However, the government has not made any resolutions regarding amateur indoor sports in its guidelines. So we do not expect for amateur sports to be resumed at least till the end of summer.
- People will be able to spend time outdoors, including private gardens and other outdoor spaces, in groups of up to six people from different households, following social distancing guidelines. You can find the full UK Government guidance here.
Sports England has issued a useful summary of the situation. Exercising in an indoor sports court, gym or leisure centre is still prohibited.
Basketball England has issued a "Return to Play" guidance, which recommends organisations to aim to start 2020/21 Seasons by the end of the year, subject to COVID-19 recovery plan going as expected.
We hope that for everyone's sake that this crisis ends as soon as possible, and advise you all to stay safe in the meantime. Coming back to what we call "normal" might not happen for a while, and even when our beloved sport is allowed to resume, there will be new guidelines and procedures to follow.
With all the above in mind, we're sad to announce that Summer League 2020 will not be taking place.
LBN 19/20 Winter Season Playoffs are still to be re-evaluated, and we'll make a decision together with the participating teams (and following BE guidelines) in the upcoming months.
LBN 20/21 Winter Season will be subject to UK Government guidance. If venues are open, we will be back.
That said, we're not going anywhere!
We want you to know we're on top of the situation and will update you as soon as we have any official guideline. LBN will provide support to its players in order to secure a smooth transition from their homes to the court.
We're looking forward to returning to the courts as much as you all are!
We'll interview the rest of our teams (Spartans, Viesulas, London Commodores and London 3nd) soon!
Thanks for being there.
Stay strong. Stay safe. Stay home
